The Audi Q4 e-tron, a relatively new entrant in the electric vehicle market since its debut in 2021, offers a compelling blend of comfort, practicality, and class. As an automotive journalist with two decades of experience, I’ve had the pleasure of driving numerous models over the years, from traditional gasoline-powered SUVs to today’s cutting-edge EVs. The Q4 e-tron stands out not just for its electric drivetrain but also for its heritage within Audi’s lineup.
One cannot discuss the Q4 e-tron without acknowledging its platform kinship with the Skoda Enyaq and VW ID 4, all of which share a common MQB Evo architecture. This shared DNA translates into a robust, reliable foundation that has been honed over years of development in other models within Volkswagen Group’s portfolio.
Financially speaking, the Q4 e-tron presents an attractive proposition for those looking to enter the EV market without breaking the bank. Used examples are competitively priced compared to its Skoda and VW counterparts, offering similar features at a slightly higher cost than the Volvo XC40 Recharge but significantly less than the BMW iX3.
The Q4 e-tron’s trims start with the entry-level Sport model, which includes 19-inch alloy wheels, three-zone climate control, heated front seats, and a powered boot lid. Stepping up to S line adds larger 20-inch wheels, privacy glass, sports front seats, and ambient interior lighting. The Black Edition takes things further with even bigger 21-inch wheels, a black exterior styling pack, and paddle shifters for energy recuperation control.
Power options range from the entry-level Q4 e-tron 40 with 201bhp rear-wheel drive to the more potent Q4 e-tron 50 variant boasting 295bhp in dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration. While the base model’s acceleration of 8.5 seconds to 62mph may seem modest, its instant torque delivery makes it feel lively and responsive during everyday driving. The top-tier 50 version can sprint from standstill to 62mph in just 6.2 seconds.
On-road performance is another area where the Q4 e-tron excels. Its ride quality is commendable, with Sport models on smaller wheels providing the most comfort and isolation against road imperfections. Though it may roll in hard corners due to its SUV nature, the Q4 grips well and offers precise steering. The Dynamic driving mode adds weight but doesn’t significantly enhance performance or enjoyment.
