BMW Z4’s Final Edition Announced Before Sunset

BMW is officially saying goodbye to the two-seat roadster with a final edition of the M40i model in the US market. Production will wrap up next spring, making way for whatever comes next.

The last batch of Z4s will feature an all-black look including matte Frozen Black paint and high-gloss black accents. The staggered 800M wheels, with their two-tone finish, give it a unique flair that sets this edition apart from the regular run-of-the-mill models.

Inside, BMW is going all out for the final sendoff with premium leather and Alcantara seats adorned in red contrast stitching. Every single car will be packed to the brim with driver assistance tech and a Harman Kardon sound system. Pricing starts at $78,675, regardless of transmission choice.

BMW had toyed with the idea of an even more exclusive version but scrapped it at the last minute. This Final Edition is now the top-tier model to own before the Z4 disappears entirely from showrooms. With only 10,482 units sold in the past year, the roadster’s days were clearly numbered.

As much as enthusiasts and critics alike would love to see a new Z car on the horizon, it’s hard to argue against BMW’s decision. Low-volume models like this are tough sells these days, even for established brands with loyal fan bases. The end of the roadster era will likely give way to more electric or hybrid alternatives in the future.

It’s a bittersweet moment for fans who have grown fond of the Z4 over its life cycle. The BMW brand continues to evolve, and this final edition is a fitting sendoff. As we wait and see what BMW has in store next, one thing is certain: there will be plenty of debate around whether it can match the legacy left by the Z4.

BMW’s decision comes as Toyota confirms its Supra successor without any German ties involved. The roadster market is changing rapidly, leaving enthusiasts to wonder what will come next in this space.
