BYD Unveils Atto 2 PHEV with Up to 1,020 km Range in Barcelona

During a recent launch event in Barcelona, Chinese automaker BYD introduced its newest addition to the global market: the Atto 2 DM-i plug-in hybrid. The event also saw the unveiling of the long-range battery electric version, known as the Atto 2 Comfort. The PHEV variant is the first under the Atto 2 lineup and offers a WLTP-certified pure-electric range of up to 90 km with an impressive combined range of approximately 1,020 km when both fuel tank and battery are utilized.

The exterior of the Atto 2 DM-i features subtle yet distinctive design elements such as a larger front grille for improved engine cooling and a newly designed badge. The vehicle is available in an exclusive “Midnight Blue” color that sets it apart from other models. It measures approximately 4.3 meters long and rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, complemented by LED headlights and a full-width rear light bar.

Inside the cabin, the Atto 2 DM-i offers premium features like a 12.8-inch touchscreen display, vegan leather seats, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. The vehicle also includes a dedicated glasses compartment and wireless phone charging for added convenience. With its versatile storage solutions, the boot space extends from 425 liters to 1,335 liters when the rear seats are folded down.

The Atto 2 DM-i is offered in two configurations: Active and Boost. The Active model produces 122 kW (166 PS) with a 7.8 kWh battery pack, providing an electric range of about 40 km and a combined range of around 930 km. In contrast, the Boost variant generates 156 kW (212 PS) from an 18 kWh battery and offers up to 90 km of pure-electric driving with a total range of roughly 1,020 km. The latter reaches a top speed of 180 km/h and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds.

BYD’s presence in Europe continues to grow as the company now offers a diverse lineup that includes several models like the Seal, Han sedan, Tang SUV, and Atto 3 hatchback. The introduction of the Atto 2 DM-i marks BYD’s expansion into the compact crossover segment with both hybrid and battery-electric options. With plans for up to 1,000 retail locations by the end of 2025, BYD aims to strengthen its footprint in European markets.
