The automotive world is abuzz with news as Hyundai recalls over 85,000 Sonata sedans due to potential fuel tank issues. The affected vehicles are from the 2020 through 2023 model years and equipped with a specific nonhybrid engine setup. Owners of these cars should be on alert for symptoms like unusual noises or smells emanating from their vehicle’s rear end.
The problem lies within a faulty purge control check valve, which can cause the fuel tank to pressurize and potentially deform under extreme circumstances. This deformation could bring the fuel tank dangerously close to exhaust components, creating a significant fire hazard. Thankfully, no incidents have been reported so far, but this doesn’t mean drivers should ignore the potential risks.
