Mahindra Unveils XEV 9S Electric SUV: Key Specs and Pricing Details

Mahindra has unveiled the teaser for its upcoming electric SUV, the XEV 9S, which is set to launch soon. The vehicle is built on the INGLO skateboard platform and features a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) setup with a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMS). It boasts an impressive power output of 282 horsepower and torque of 380 Nm, making it competitive in the electric SUV segment.

The XEV 9S is expected to be priced between Rs. 21-30 lakh, placing it directly against rivals such as the Tata Harrier EV and BYD eMax 7. The vehicle’s three-row seating configuration sets it apart from its two existing Born Electric counterparts, which offer a five-seat layout. This additional space could appeal to families or those needing more passenger capacity.

Externally, the XEV 9S sports distinctive features like a full-width LED light bar and a front camera, both borrowed from the current XEV 9e model. The interior includes premium touches such as Harman Kardon audio systems, blacked-out cabin finishes, and LED lighting throughout. Additionally, it offers convenience features including a powered tailgate and panoramic sunroof.

Powering the XEV 9S is either a 59kWh or 79kWh BYD Blade LFP battery pack, providing ample range for daily commuting needs. The choice of battery size could cater to different customer preferences based on driving habits and range requirements. With these options, Mahindra aims to capture a significant share in the growing electric SUV market.

Competitively priced within its segment, the XEV 9S faces stiff competition from established players like Tata Motors’ Harrier EV and BYD’s eMax 7. While Tataโ€™s Harrier EV offers similar functionalities with a slightly different design approach, BYD’s eMax 7 presents a strong challenge with its advanced technology and features.

The launch of the XEV 9S marks Mahindra’s strategic move to strengthen its presence in the electric SUV market. With its robust performance figures, spacious interior layout, and comprehensive feature set, it aims to attract customers looking for an electric vehicle that combines practicality with luxury. As the Indian EV market continues to grow, vehicles like the XEV 9S are expected to play a crucial role in shaping future trends.
