After months of anticipation, I finally got the chance to drive the new Cupra Raval prototype. This electric vehicle (EV) is set to be built on Volkswagen Group’s MEB+ platform and could mark a significant step forward for the brand.

Key Takeaways

The Cupra Raval is one of the first vehicles to use <a href="https://autoglobalnews.com/renault-kardian-and-vw-taos-earn-five-star-safety-ratings-from-latinncap/” style=”color:#1a73e8;text-decoration:underline;” title=”Renault Kardian and VW Taos Earn Five-Star Safety Ratings fr”>VW Group’s new MEB+ electric vehicle architecture.

Cupra aims to offer a compelling package in terms of price, range, and technology for buyers.

The prototype shows promise but needs more testing before we can fully assess its performance as a ‘hot’ hatchback.

Driving the Cupra Raval prototype was an exciting experience. The car feels like it’s moving forward from earlier models in terms of design and technology, making it a strong contender in the competitive EV market. However, we still need to see how it performs on real roads and against other cars.

The new MEB+ platform is crucial for Cupra’s future plans. This high-volume architecture will support not just the Raval but also upcoming models like the VW ID. Polo and Skoda Epiq. It’s clear that Volkswagen Group sees this as a significant investment in their electric vehicle lineup, with production starting at Cupra’s Barcelona facility.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the Raval is its potential to redefine what it means to be a ‘hot’ hatchback in the EV era. With previous models falling short in terms of performance and appeal, the Raval could be the turning point for Cupra if they manage to balance price, range, and technology effectively.

While the prototype looks promising, there are still questions about its real-world usability. For example, how will it handle daily commutes? Will it offer enough charging options to cater to busy family schedules? These practical concerns will be crucial in determining if Cupra has truly hit a home run with their latest offering.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the full reveal of the Cupra Raval?

The official unveiling of the new Cupra Raval is scheduled for February 2026, giving us more time to assess its features and performance.

What other models will use the MEB+ platform?

In addition to the Cupra Raval, the VW ID. Polo, Skoda Epiq, and a production version of the ID. Cross concept are also set to be built on this new architecture.

The Cupra Raval prototype is an exciting glimpse into what’s possible with electric vehicles. As we wait for its full reveal next February, it’s clear that Cupra has big ambitions and a lot riding on this car. We’ll have to see if they can deliver the performance and usability needed to make it stand out in the crowded EV market.

The new Cupra Leon VZ and TCR models celebrate the success of the Leon in global TCR touring car racing with significant power upgrades over recent years. Both models offer enhanced performance features, but differ in their approach to styling and practicality.

With production runs limited to 1500 units for the VZ and just 499 for the VZ TCR, these editions are highly sought after by enthusiasts looking for a blend of high-speed thrills and everyday usability.

The Cupra Leon VZ and VZ TCR are the latest additions to the Leon lineup, celebrating its success in global TCR touring car racing. Both models boast significant power upgrades over recent years, with a peak of 321bhp and 310lb ft of torque from Volkswagen’s EA888 engine. The VZ model has a production run of 1500 units globally, while the more exclusive VZ TCR is limited to just 499 cars worldwide.

Despite their high performance credentials, the VZ and VZ TCR models are not the most powerful Leons ever produced. The 2.0 TSI Leon 4Drive Estate still leads with a potent 329bhp output. Nonetheless, both new editions surpass their predecessor, the series-production Leon 300 hatch, in terms of power and torque.

The VZ models come equipped with adaptively damped sport suspension and a VAQ torque-vectoring pseudo-differential for enhanced performance. The standard fitment of six-pot Akebono front brakes is another significant upgrade over lesser Leons. These features make the new editions more than just race-inspired showpieces, offering genuine track-day capabilities.

While both models share many technical upgrades, they differ in their approach to styling and practicality. The VZ model aims for a balance between performance and everyday usability with subtle exterior modifications such as copper-colored quad exhaust pipes. In contrast, the VZ TCR opts for a more aggressive look, featuring wider 19-inch wheels, grippier tires, an aerodynamic kit, and race-inspired decals.

The removal of the Leon’s standard 155mph speed limiter in both new editions allows them to theoretically reach a top speed of 168mph. This is a significant upgrade for enthusiasts looking for high-speed thrills on less crowded roads. The VZ model, however, remains more accessible with its lower price point and higher production numbers compared to the limited-edition TCR variant.

For automotive enthusiasts and Cupra loyalists, these new models represent an exciting chapter in the Leon’s legacy. Drawing inspiration from racing success while offering practical upgrades for daily driving, the VZ and VZ TCR continue the brand’s tradition of blending performance with usability. As we look back at previous iterations like the original 300 model, it’s clear that Cupra is pushing boundaries without losing sight of what makes the Leon a beloved hot hatch.
