Kia’s General Manager of Product Planning, Roland Rivero, recently confirmed that a mid-cycle refresh is planned for the EV5. The update will likely include cosmetic tweaks as well as tech enhancements to keep up with competitors such as Tesla and BYD in terms of charging speed and efficiency.

Currently, the EV5 uses Kia’s 400-volt N3 eK system which limits DC fast-charging speeds to a maximum of 140 kW. This is slower than rivals like Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 that use an advanced E-GMP platform with an 800-volt architecture, allowing for faster charging times.

Improvements in cabin comfort and technology features are also anticipated based on the Weekender concept car unveiled at the recent Seoul Motor Show. The EV5 may adopt similar design elements to enhance user experience and appeal to tech-savvy buyers.

The refresh is expected before the end of 2026, with a market launch likely following in early 2027 for most regions outside China. This rapid turnaround demonstrates Kia’s commitment to staying competitive in an electric vehicle landscape where technology and performance are key selling points.
