Key Takeaways

S-CORE version 0.5-alpha is now available for developers and automotive companies to integrate into their systems.

This release includes contributions from Qorix, focusing on the middleware level of software that enables communication, data management, and real-time processing.

The new version aims to provide a platform-independent approach to executing safety-critical functions in vehicles.

With this latest update, S-CORE continues its journey towards becoming an essential part of modern automotive technology. The software is designed to ensure that critical vehicle functions such as driver assistance and powertrain management can run reliably across different hardware platforms. This standardization could lead to more consistent performance and safety measures across various car models.

Qorix, a key player in the development of S-CORE, has been instrumental in shaping this release by focusing on the middleware level of software. Their work includes developing an orchestrator module that helps manage mixed-criticality applications efficiently. This means that developers don’t need to manually control sequence planning or resource use, making it easier for them to focus on creating innovative features without compromising safety.

The Qorix Performance Distribution based on S-CORE is now available as a ready-to-use middleware product for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers. This distribution combines the openness of the S-CORE stack with stabilized components, professional support, tooling, and long-term release maintenance. It also includes services like cybersecurity, functional safety documentation, and system integration, making it practical for real-world automotive applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is S-CORE open-source?

Yes, the latest version of S-CORE is released under an open-source license, allowing developers and companies to freely use, modify, and distribute it.

How can automotive manufacturers benefit from using S-CORE?

Automotive manufacturers can benefit by ensuring their vehicles have a standardized software base for safety-critical functions. This helps in achieving deterministic, interoperable execution of these functions across different hardware platforms.

This release is a testament to the collaborative efforts of automotive technology companies like Qorix and the Eclipse Software Defined Vehicle Working Group. It promises to enhance the reliability and efficiency of vehicle software systems, ultimately benefiting drivers with safer and more advanced car technologies.

Pionix, a provider of charging software solutions, has just secured over €8 million in fresh funding. This round was led by Ascend Capital Partners and includes investments from the Start-up BW Seed Fund managed by MBG Baden-Württemberg, among others.

The primary goal is to scale up their enterprise products for electric vehicle (EV) charging on an open-source platform called “EVerest.” Since its inception in 2023, Pionix has been working towards creating a standardized and efficient system for EV charging infrastructure. The latest funding will enable them to further develop this initiative.

Current challenges in the EV industry include fragmented systems that do not communicate effectively with each other. This leads to issues like reliability problems and high error rates during charging sessions, which can be up to 25% in some cases.

Pionix’s open-source platform aims to address these interoperability concerns by serving as a shared software foundation for all EV charging technologies. By doing so, it ensures better communication between different hardware and software systems, leading to more efficient and reliable charging solutions globally.

One of Pionix’s key clients is Amperfied, the charging infrastructure subsidiary of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG. They plan to use BaseCamp, an industrial-grade version of EVerest, as the operating system for their Amperfied Dynamic DC chargers. With more than 600 contributors from over 70 organizations supporting the platform, it’s expected that “EVerest” will power hundreds of thousands of chargers worldwide.

Pionix also offers specific solutions like Pionix Cloud and ChargeBridge to help manufacturers deploy reliable chargers quickly while ensuring they comply with industry standards. This latest funding round is a significant step towards unifying EV charging technology under one common framework, aiming for better reliability, faster innovation, and wider adoption of electric vehicles.
