The company’s December domestic NEV sales dropped to 420,398 units from the previous year’s figure of 514,809. This marks a fourth consecutive month of decline for BYD in China.

BYD’s overseas market continued its upward trajectory with record-breaking sales figures last December. The company sold over 133 thousand NEVs abroad, representing a substantial increase from the same period in 2024 and surpassing November’s high mark by nearly two percent.

The decline in domestic sales was particularly pronounced for passenger vehicles, which saw a drop of almost nineteen percent year-on-year to 414,784 units sold. Commercial vehicle sales also showed signs of weakness, with figures dropping from the previous month and falling short compared to last December’s numbers.

Despite these challenges at home, BYD’s international expansion remains strong, driven by growing demand in key markets such as Europe and Southeast Asia where its electric vehicles enjoy robust acceptance. The company has been investing heavily in overseas manufacturing capabilities to meet rising global demand.
