Is the new 2026 Skoda Fabia 130 the real deal as a performance hatchback, or just another pretty face? After spending some time behind the wheel, I’m here to tell you it’s got some serious pep in its step. But does that make it hot enough for your taste?

Key Takeaways

The Fabia 130 delivers a punchy performance with its turbocharged engine.

Sleek design and driver-friendly tech upgrades set it apart from the competition.

Balances sportiness with practicality, making it appealing to both enthusiasts and everyday drivers.

The Fabia 130 isn’t just about looks. Underneath its sleek exterior lies a turbocharged engine that delivers an impressive 128 horsepower and 175 Nm of torque. It’s not the most powerful in the class, but it’s got enough to make your heart race.

But what really sets this car apart is how it handles on the road. The steering feels direct and precise, giving you that sporty feel without sacrificing comfort. Plus, with its lower ride height and stiffer suspension setup, cornering becomes a breeze.

The interior may not blow your mind with luxury features, but it’s surprisingly well thought out for everyday use. A touchscreen infotainment system takes center stage, complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Throw in some handy driver assistance tech like lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control, and you’ve got a car that’s both fun to drive and easy to live with.

But here’s the kicker: despite all these upgrades, Skoda managed to keep things affordable for most budgets. With prices starting at just under €20K, it’s hard not to be impressed by what you get for your money. So if you’re looking for a hot hatch that doesn’t break the bank, this might just be the one.

The Skoda Kodiaq PHEV is now available Down Under, marking the brand’s continued push into electrified SUVs. With a starting price of $69,990 AUD (excluding on-road costs), it competes directly against established models like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

Key Takeaways

The Skoda Kodiaq PHEV starts at $69,990 AUD (excluding on-road costs).

Battery capacity is 18.4 kWh and can charge up to an impressive 7 kW.

It offers a range of over 53 kilometers in electric mode alone.

The Kodiaq PHEV builds upon the success of its diesel-powered predecessor, offering more than just electrification. With a plug-in hybrid system underpinning it all, this model provides an impressive blend of fuel economy and performance that’s hard to match at this price point.

One standout feature is its battery capacity of 18.4 kWh, which can be charged up to 7 kW using the onboard charger. This allows for rapid charging when plugging into a suitable power source, making long journeys more manageable without sacrificing convenience or practicality.

The Skoda Kodiaq PHEV also boasts an impressive electric range of over 53 kilometers on a single charge. For many daily commutes and short trips around town, this means driving purely on electricity, reducing running costs significantly while minimizing environmental impact.

But what sets the new model apart isn’t just its technical prowess; it’s how seamlessly these features integrate into everyday life for Australian drivers looking to transition towards electrified vehicles. The Kodiaq PHEV doesn’t feel like a compromise—it feels more like an evolution of Skoda’s traditional strengths in practicality and value.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the charging time compare to other plug-in hybrids?

The Kodiaq PHEV can charge up to 7 kW, which is faster than many competitors. However, it depends on what charger you have access to.

Does it retain Skoda’s reputation for practicality and value?

Absolutely. The Kodiaq PHEV continues Skoda’s legacy of offering excellent space efficiency while maintaining a strong focus on affordability, making it an attractive option in the growing EV market.

In summary, the Skoda Kodiaq PHEV is another step forward for the brand as they continue to innovate and cater to changing consumer preferences. It’s clear that Skoda isn’t just playing catch-up; they’re setting a new standard within their segment.

A Škoda designer has reimagined the brand's first million-selling model as an EV concept, blending classic charm with modern innovation.

A Škoda designer has rethought the brand’s iconic first million-seller, turning it into a modern electric vehicle concept that blends classic charm with cutting-edge technology.

Key Takeaways

Martin Paclt designed an EV version of Škoda’s 1960s model as a design study.

The windowless rear and innovative cooling system are standout features.

The concept shows how to honor classic cars in contemporary electric designs without relying on nostalgia alone.

Škoda’s Škoda 100, made between ’69 and ’77, was a hit for its simplicity and reliability. Designer Martin Paclt took inspiration from this model but gave it an EV twist with the brand’s Modern Solid design language.

The concept keeps some classic elements like four-element lighting signatures while adding modern touches such as full-width light strips that pay homage to chrome accents of old models. And let’s not forget about the unconventional windowless rear, a nod to the original car’s interchangeable front and back glass panels.

But here’s where things get interesting: by removing the rear window, Paclt could integrate an innovative fresh-air intake system above the roofline with discreet vents on the rear wings. This design helps cool electric components without sacrificing style or space inside.

The concept builds off Škoda’s Superb model to give it appropriate scale and road presence. Even though there are no plans for production, insights from this project can help shape future EV designs that respect heritage while embracing modern needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Škoda planning to make the concept car?

Nope, it’s just a design study meant to inspire future projects. But who knows? Maybe some of these ideas will find their way into production models down the line.

What inspired the windowless rear design?

The original Škoda 100 had nearly identical front and back windows, which served as inspiration for this bold move. By removing the rear glass entirely, Paclt could explore new ways to cool an EV while maintaining a sleek look.

While it’s not heading straight into production anytime soon, Škoda’s concept car shows how designers can honor classic cars in contemporary electric designs without resorting to retro replicas. It’s all about capturing the essence of what made those models so beloved back then while pushing boundaries for today.

The Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) recently celebrated a major milestone with its production surpassing two million units in just 25 years. This achievement comes at the peak of the company’s business cycle, as October 2025 marked the highest monthly performance since SAVWIPL was established.

One key driver behind this success is the MQB-A0-IN platform, which has seen over half a million vehicles roll off the assembly line. This platform supports models such as the Škoda Kushaq and Slavia, alongside Volkswagen’s Taigun and Virtus. The latter two have been particularly successful in the premium sedan segment, where they have achieved more than 40% market share for several months.

Commercial operations across brands within SAVWIPL are thriving as well. Škoda Auto India recorded its best-ever sales figures during the first ten months of 2025, with unit sales doubling year-on-year to reach 61,607 units. Volkswagen India also reported record numbers, led by the Virtus which captured significant market share in premium sedans.

The luxury segment is not lagging either, as Bentley has launched dedicated operations under SAVWIPL and opened new showrooms in major cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru. Porsche continues to expand its reach, now serving over 4,400 customers through a network of 13 sales outlets across the country.

In terms of international presence, exports have been a cornerstone for SAVWIPL’s growth strategy. Over 700,000 vehicles were shipped from Indian factories to various global markets last year. This export success has been bolstered by investments totaling nearly €600 million, aiding in the company’s focus on localization and operational efficiency.

While Volkswagen is gaining traction here, it’s worth noting Volkswagen’s plans for the Chinese market. The company is gearing up to introduce its ID. Era EREV crossover model, further expanding its global footprint.

As Skoda Automotive marks its 130th anniversary this year, it is an opportune moment to reflect on the brand’s journey from a bicycle manufacturer in Mladá Boleslav to one of Europe’s premier automotive manufacturers. Over the decades, Skoda has made significant contributions to the car industry with models such as the Felicia and Octavia, which have been beloved by millions of drivers around the world.

Throughout its history, Skoda has undergone numerous transformations, including joining the Volkswagen Group in 1991, a move that has greatly enhanced the brand’s global reach and reputation. Today, Skoda continues to innovate with an expanding lineup of electric vehicles and SUVs, positioning itself as a leader in sustainable mobility solutions.

One notable milestone was the launch of the Roomster compact MPV in 2006, which showcased Skoda’s ability to deliver practicality and efficiency. This model set the stage for future innovations like the Superb Estate and the award-winning Octavia Sportline. More recently, Skoda has been leveraging its partnerships within the Volkswagen Group to introduce advanced technologies such as ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) in more affordable models.

In addition to traditional combustion engine vehicles, Skoda is also investing heavily in electric mobility. As part of our previous analysis on EV adoption trends, we noted that Skoda’s iV range has been gaining traction among eco-conscious consumers seeking reliable and cost-effective alternatives to gasoline-powered cars. This commitment to electrification aligns well with the brand’s long-term strategy of reducing its carbon footprint while maintaining affordability.

Looking ahead, Skoda appears poised for continued growth as it capitalizes on emerging markets and new technological advancements. Recent reports from Consumer Reports, ranking the best large SUVs of 2025, feature several Skoda models at the top due to their robust performance and competitive pricing. As such, Skoda is likely to remain a force in the automotive industry for years to come.

The Skoda Kodiaq Sportline offers a blend of performance and practicality, maintaining its predecessor's reputation while adding more sporty elements. However, does it still deliver the same level of comfort and convenience expected from a seven-seater SUV?

The Skoda Kodiaq has long been lauded for its practicality and spaciousness, making it one of the most car-like seven-seaters in the market. With the introduction of the second-generation model, Skoda aims to maintain its reputation while adding more features and a sportier edge with the Sportline variant. This review dives into whether the Kodiaq Sportline retains the charm of its predecessor and if it’s worth recommending for those seeking an engaging driving experience alongside ample room.

Launched back in 2017, the original Skoda Kodiaq made a significant impact with its blend of comfort and practicality. The second-generation model now offers three variants: Select, Sportline, and top-tier RS. While the base Select variant is priced at $56,990 drive away, our test unit was the more dynamic Sportline, which comes with a hefty price tag of $61,990. All variants are powered by Skoda’s reliable 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The Kodiaq Sportline is equipped to impress from the moment you step inside. Leather upholstery, an electric driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a large 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system are just some of the features included as standard in even the base Select model. The Sportline further enhances these by adding sportier styling elements such as gloss black trim and darkened wheels. Under the hood, the engine produces an ample 140kW of power and 320Nm of torque, providing responsive performance that caters to both city driving and highway cruising.

Compared to its competitors in the seven-seater SUV segment, such as the Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda CX-80, and Volkswagen Tayron, the Skoda Kodiaq sits comfortably at a competitive price point while offering comparable space and features. The arrival of hybrid variants later this year promises even greater efficiency options for consumers looking to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising on performance or luxury.

One of the highlights of the second-generation Skoda Kodiaq is its enhanced comfort and technology offerings. Features like adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, nine airbags, and a comprehensive suite of active safety measures make it an attractive choice for family buyers who prioritize peace of mind. However, despite these improvements, some potential drawbacks remain: the third row is still primarily suited to children, and live services are not yet available in Australia.

In conclusion, while there’s no doubt that the Skoda Kodiaq Sportline represents a significant evolution from its predecessor, it remains to be seen whether the additional sportiness translates into everyday usability without compromising on practicality. With strong safety credentials and impressive features at an affordable price point, the new generation Kodiaq is certainly worth considering for those looking for a versatile family vehicle with added zest.
