The Toyota Urban Cruiser is a compact crossover that aims to bridge the gap between city driving and weekend adventures. Its bold design and practical features make it an interesting addition to Toyota’s lineup.

Key Takeaways

Aimed at urban drivers looking for versatility

Bold exterior styling that sets it apart from other small SUVs

Solid build quality and practical interior layout

The Urban Cruiser’s design is a departure from Toyota’s usual understated approach, featuring chunky wheel arches and rugged bumpers. It looks like something you’d see on the road less traveled.

Underneath its tough exterior lies a familiar mechanical setup. The car uses Toyota’s DNGA platform, which isn’t new but is proven to be reliable in similar models such as the Yaris Cross.

The interior of the Urban Cruiser offers good space for four passengers and has plenty of storage options. It’s not luxurious by any means, but it gets the job done with a focus on practicality over opulence.

When it comes to performance, the 1.5-liter engine isn’t particularly exciting, but it does provide enough power to keep up in traffic without breaking too much of a sweat. Fuel efficiency is decent for its class, and handling remains predictable and easy to manage around town.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, while it looks ready for rough terrain, its underpinnings are more suited to pavement and light dirt roads.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser offers similar fuel efficiency as competitors in this segment. Expect around 50 mpg on a long highway drive, which is respectable for its size.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for an urban crossover that doesn’t compromise too much on style or practicality, the Toyota Urban Cruiser could be worth considering. It’s not going to blow your mind with performance or luxury features, but it does what it sets out to do well.

The launch of these two models is part of Toyota’s broader strategy to cater to the unique demands of each regional market.

The Urban Cruiser arrives in Indonesia with a single configuration priced at 759 million rupiah (approximately 39,500 euros). This model is imported from India and manufactured alongside Suzuki’s eVitara. Despite being offered in three variants in Europe, Toyota has opted for the middle variant which emphasizes range over other features.

The Urban Cruiser is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 128 kW of power and 192.5 Nm of torque, supported by an LFP battery pack with a net capacity of 59.8 kWh and gross capacity of 61.1 kWh. It supports fast charging up to 67 kW DC, taking around 45 minutes to go from 10% to 80% SoC (State of Charge). On full charge, it offers a range of 426.7 kilometers under WLTP conditions.

Toyota has also brought the locally assembled bZ4X model, which is now being produced in Karawang, West Java. This variant comes with an NMC battery pack boasting an energy storage capacity of 69 kWh net and 73.1 kWh gross. It features a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor generating 165 kW power and 268 Nm torque.

Charging capabilities for the bZ4X are impressive, as it can achieve from 10% to 80% SoC in just 30 minutes with peak input of up to 150 kW. The new model is available in Indonesia at a price tag of 799 million rupiah (around 41,500 euros).

Both models are packed with advanced features such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and lane departure prevention systems, ensuring that safety remains a top priority. Additionally, they come equipped with modern amenities like touchscreen infotainment systems and panoramic sunroofs.
