Parents and car enthusiasts are praising Volvo for integrating built-in booster seats into select models, addressing a common challenge in family vehicle design. These innovative features have garnered positive feedback from users like Kelly Stumpe (@the_car_mom on Instagram) who advocate for wider adoption of this safety measure.

Key Takeaways

Volvo’s XC90 and XC60 models offer built-in booster seats as an optional feature, with the XC90 providing a single center seat booster and the XC60 offering two side boosters.

The integrated booster seats comply with state laws requiring children aged 4 to 8 or weighing between 40-80 pounds to use booster seats for optimal safety.

Parents appreciate the convenience of built-in boosters, which eliminate the need to carry bulky car seat accessories and provide a seamless transition as children grow.

Volvo’s integrated booster seats are currently available in select models such as the XC90 and XC60. The XC90 offers an optional center seat booster for the second row, while the XC60 provides two side boosters on each side of the rear bench. These seats can be easily transformed from standard seating to a booster by pulling a latch, which separates the lower cushion and allows the booster section to rise.

The built-in booster seats are designed to meet state regulations requiring children aged 4-8 or those weighing between 40-80 pounds to use booster seats. This ensures that the seat belt fits properly across the lap and shoulder, reducing injury risk in the event of a collision. According to safety experts, using a booster seat can reduce the risk of serious injury by up to 59% compared to using only a seat belt.

Parents who have used Volvo’s integrated boosters report high satisfaction due to their convenience and ease of use. The seats are hidden when not in use, making them ideal for families with children of different ages or sizes. Additionally, the feature reduces clutter in the vehicle by eliminating the need to carry separate booster seats.

While other automakers have addressed space issues through various means such as foldable rear seats and multi-position adjustments, Volvo’s approach stands out due to its safety-focused design. Competitors like Audi and BMW offer flexible seating options but do not provide integrated boosters in their vehicles. This unique feature positions Volvo as a leader in child passenger safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Volvos have built-in booster seats?

The XC90 and XC60 models offer integrated booster seats. The V90 Cross Country also featured this option but is no longer available in the U.S.

How do Volvo’s built-in boosters work?

To activate the booster seat, a latch on the front of the lower cushion needs to be pulled. This separates the bottom portion of the seat and allows you to raise it and slide it backward.

In conclusion, while other automakers focus on space optimization in family vehicles, Volvo’s built-in booster seats provide an innovative solution that enhances child safety and convenience for parents. As more families recognize this advantage, demand for such features could increase across the automotive industry.

With its recent price realignment, it’s now more accessible to enthusiasts looking for an adventurous ride without breaking the bank.

Volvo’s decision to lower the EX30 Cross Country’s price point by $4k compared to its previous iteration makes it a more attractive proposition.
Underneath the hood, the EX30 Cross Country utilizes dual electric motors that deliver an impressive power output of 315kW and a torque figure of 534Nm. This setup allows it to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.95 seconds, making it one of the quickest cars in its class.

The ride quality is another area where the EX30 Cross Country excels. Despite a minor increase in ground clearance by 19mm and softer suspension tuning, the car maintains a comfortable balance between on-road refinement and off-road capability. This makes it suitable for both city driving and light-duty backcountry adventures.

Steering weight can be adjusted to suit driver preference, ranging from light and breezy to more responsive settings. However, the brake pedal could use some improvement in terms of feel and resistance, which might affect its ability to balance during high-speed maneuvers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the EX30 Cross Country compare to older Volvo models?

Is the ride quality suitable for long-distance driving?

The EX30 Cross Country offers a comfortable ride on both city streets and highways. Its suspension tuning provides a smooth experience, making it well-suited for longer journeys.

Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) and its sibling company Mack Trucks are set to revolutionize the trucking industry by allowing drivers to perform software updates over-the-air (OTA) from their cabs. This move is a significant step towards reducing downtime and increasing operational efficiency.

Starting in late 2020, fleet managers will be able to approve changes, which can then be instantly activated by the driver via a simple screen icon on the truck’s instrument panel for an array of functions including engine performance tweaks, transmission adjustments, and diesel post-treatment improvements.

Conal Deedy, VTNA’s director of commercial telematics solutions, emphasizes that staying current with software updates not only reduces failure codes but also enhances fuel efficiency, lowers environmental impact, and slashes operational costs. Drivers can now configure parameters like maximum road speed or switch the engine to an eco-friendly mode from their cab’s on/off position.

David Pardue, vice president of connected vehicles and contractual services at Mack Trucks, highlights that most updates take less than 15 minutes to complete once initiated by the driver. The company’s OTA service, called Mack Over The Air, uses its integrated telematics system GuardDog Connect for remote reprogramming.

Mack is already selling packages of up to 50 in-cab software updates per year for trucks manufactured since 2018. Before this offering, customers were limited to just two parameter adjustments annually as part of their uptime subscription plan. This shift marks a significant improvement in flexibility and convenience for fleet operators.

Competitors like Daimler Trucks North America have been providing similar OTA services through their Detroit Connect platform since 2018, enabling fleets to remotely control cruise speeds and idle shutdowns based on environmental conditions along with other critical parameters. But the ability of drivers themselves to push these updates represents a step forward in user empowerment.
