On a significant day for XPENG, the company rolled off its millionth vehicle from the assembly line in Guangzhou. The milestone was marked by the delivery of an X9 Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) to a delighted customer at the official launch event on Friday. This silver-colored X9 EREV boasts XPENG’s latest intelligent driving system and is set to redefine the company’s growth trajectory.
The event highlighted not only the achievement but also the impressive sales figures of this new model. Orders for the X9 EREV surged beyond expectations, hitting an all-time high within just one hour of its launch. Interestingly, despite EV dominance in southern China’s densely populated areas, a majority of orders came from more rural northern regions.
The launch was preceded by a tour through XPENG’s Guangzhou factory, which impressed with its efficient and compact setup. Unlike traditional automotive manufacturers known for extensive vertical integration, XPENG has partnered closely with suppliers to focus on technology innovation. The result is a streamlined production process that emphasizes collaboration over complete self-reliance.
During the factory tour, it was evident how automation plays a crucial role in the assembly line’s efficiency. Stamping and welding processes were fully automated, leaving only a few forklift drivers visible during our visit. This approach not only saves space but also reduces operational costs while maintaining high standards of quality.
The X9 EREV itself is an impressive feat of engineering. It offers 800V architecture with fast charging capabilities and a large fuel tank to provide extended range options for rural buyers who may rely more on gasoline as opposed to EVs in the south. The sleek design of the MPV sets it apart from its peers, making it stand out even in crowded market segments.
With this milestone achieved, XPENG continues to make waves in the global automotive industry, showcasing a blend of technological innovation and strategic partnerships that set them apart from other manufacturers. As they continue expanding their reach internationally, the collaboration with local supply chains remains key to their ongoing success.
