The Energieversorgung Mittelrhein (EVM) and the city of Koblenz have jointly inaugurated a rapid charging park at Rizzastraße 11, marking a significant development in urban electric vehicle infrastructure. The facility features three charging stations with six total charge points, designed to cater to the growing demand for EVs within the city.
Each charging station is equipped with Alpitronic’s HYC400 chargers, capable of delivering up to 200 kW per charge point. This configuration ensures that each vehicle can receive optimal charging speeds even when another car occupies an adjacent point. In contrast, competitors like Ionity and IONITY offer stations that typically provide lower maximum power outputs, such as 175 kW or less.
The HYC400 chargers have a total capacity of up to 400 kW per station, split evenly across two charge points at 200 kW each. This setup allows for efficient sharing of resources without compromising charging speeds, unlike some other systems where full power is only available if one charger remains unused.
The charging park operates with a strict time limit of two hours per vehicle to ensure availability and fairness among users. Payment options include prepaid cards from various providers and credit or debit card payments on-site. The cost structure includes 0.59 €/kWh for immediate charging, but after 61 minutes, an additional fee of 0.10 €/minute is applied as a blocking charge.
Christoph Hesse, board member of EVM, emphasized the strategic importance of this facility in promoting electric mobility within Koblenz. He stated that it represents a forward-looking solution for all who travel through the city with electric vehicles, highlighting its central location and ease of access.
Oberbürgermeister (Mayor) of Koblenz also praised the initiative as a strong signal towards expanding electric vehicle infrastructure in the region. The rapid charging park is expected to significantly enhance the convenience and accessibility of EVs for local residents and visitors alike, contributing positively to the city’s environmental goals.
