Mahindra’s first three-row electric SUV, the XEV 9S, is set to debut in India tomorrow. The vehicle shares its design cues with the XUV700 but features a futuristic front end similar to the XEV 9e model. Teasers reveal an all-black cabin, pop-out door handles, and a full-LED light package.
The XEV 9S is based on Mahindra’s INGLO skateboard platform and will offer two battery options: 59kWh and 79kWh units paired with a rear-wheel-drive motor producing 282bhp. The range for these configurations is expected to be between 500km and 550km.
Standard features on the XEV 9S include Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), connected car technology, powered rear seats, a powered tailgate, and a full-LED light package. The vehicle also boasts a five-screen layout for front and second-row passengers and includes Harman Kardon sound system.
The XEV 9S will compete in the Rs. 21-30 lakh price range against models such as the Tata Harrier EV and BYD eMax 7. This positioning places it squarely within reach of a broad segment of electric vehicle enthusiasts and families seeking spacious, high-tech SUVs.
Mahindra’s entry into the three-row BEV market is seen as a significant move to establish its presence in the growing electric vehicle sector. The company aims to leverage this launch to strengthen its brand image and expand its customer base among those looking for advanced features and extended range capabilities.
With the XEV 9S, Mahindra seeks to address the demand for larger electric vehicles that offer both utility and luxury features. This model is expected to set a new benchmark in India’s EV market, offering a compelling alternative to existing offerings from other manufacturers such as Tata Motors and BYD.
