BYD Yuan Plus Gets Major Update with Up to 650 km Range and New Motor

The BYD Yuan Plus, known in Brazil as the Atto 3, is set for a significant update. According to recent reports from Car News China, the SUV will feature an upgraded Blade battery, increasing its capacity to 74.88 kWh. This enhancement promises a CLTC range of up to 650 km, which is a substantial improvement over the current model’s 510 km range with a 60.48 kWh battery.

BYD has also updated the electric motor, replacing it with a permanent magnet TZ200XYC unit that delivers an impressive 230 kW (312 hp), up from the existing 150 kW (204 hp). This change will boost the SUV’s top speed from 160 km/h to 180 km/h, enhancing its performance credentials. The updated Yuan Plus is expected to weigh around 1,880 kg, a noticeable increase of approximately 180 kg due to the larger battery.

Visually, the BYD Yuan Plus will receive minor updates, including new 18-inch wheels with dual five-spoke designs and tires measuring 215/55 or 235/50. The charging port has been relocated from the front to the rear of the vehicle for better aesthetics. Additionally, the SUV is expected to come standard with a panoramic sunroof, enhancing its appeal.

The dimensions of the Yuan Plus remain unchanged at 4.45 meters in length, 1.87 meters in width, and 1.61 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.72 meters. These measurements place it squarely in the compact SUV category. In terms of safety features, the updated model will boast an advanced ADAS system equipped with 12 cameras and 17 radars for improved driver assistance.

While there’s no official word on when this update will be available in Brazil, BYD has been making significant strides in Latin America, particularly in countries like Chile, where it has seen substantial market growth. As we reported earlier, the company is expanding its lineup with models such as the Atto 2 PHEV and focusing on establishing a robust electric vehicle presence.
