EV Drivers Face Pay-per-Mile Tax Starting £200 Annually in 2028

Starting April 2028, electric vehicle (EV) drivers will face a new pay-per-mile tax costing an average of £200 to £300 annually. The Autumn Budget announcement by Chancellor Rachel Reeves introduces this road pricing scheme for EVs and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), which will apply on top of existing Vehicle Excise Duty (VED).Under the new system, EV drivers will be charged three pence per mile, while PHEV owners will pay half that rate. These costs are expected to rise annually in line with inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index. The Office for Budget Responsibility predicts this tax could raise approximately £1.4 billion per year by 2029-30. However, critics argue it might hinder EV adoption and reduce the number of electric cars on UK roads from around four percent to a lower figur...

JackRabbit MG Doble: A Compact Yet Fun Ride for Two

When I first laid eyes on the JackRabbit MG Doble, it was love at first sight—or curiosity, to be more accurate. This quirky micro e-bike caught my attention with its unique design and promise of a two-person ride that's both compact and enjoyable. Despite not fitting neatly into any traditional category—neither fully an electric bike nor a mini-motorbike—it offers something truly special: a sense of freedom and fun that’s hard to resist. At first glance, the MG Doble looks like a stretched version of JackRabbit's XG series microbikes. But once you climb aboard, it feels more like a stripped-down motorcycle than an oversized scooter. Its front 24×3″ tire and rear 20×3″ tire give it that distinctive mullet look, making it easy to store in tight spaces without sacrificing stability on the roa...

Five Concept Pontiacs That Should Have Hit The Road

Like many car enthusiasts, I've always been fascinated by the concept cars that never made it to production lines. For Pontiac fans like me, there's a special place in our hearts for those models that could have been but weren't. Among them are five standouts: the Banshee XP-833, Pegasus, Trans Am Kammback, Rageous, and Solstice SD290 Concept. The 1964 Pontiac Banshee XP-833 is a prime example of what could have been. Designed to slot in between the Corvette and Camaro as GM's answer to Ford's Mustang, it was unfortunately too similar to its sibling, the Corvette. This resemblance led GM executives to halt production, fearing it might cannibalize sales from their beloved sports car.The 1971 Pegasus concept is another that caught my eye. It featured actual Ferrari parts and had a unique desi...

Why Car Companies Crush Their Perfectly Good Concept Cars

Imagine walking into a car dealership and seeing a sleek, futuristic vehicle that looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. You're excited about the possibilities until you find out it's just a concept car—a fancy model meant to showcase what might be possible in the distant future rather than an actual product for sale. These cars are often unsafe, illegal on the streets, and undriveable. They're more like advertisements than real vehicles.Concept cars serve as marketing tools for automakers. When you see one at a car show or online, it's meant to make you think about what could be possible in 30 years. But once their purpose is served, these cars often meet an untimely end—being crushed or sent to museums. It’s like when your favorite toy breaks and there are no replacement parts avail...

Tesla’s FSD Licensing: Musk Surprised by Automakers’ Rejection

Elon Musk recently expressed his surprise and frustration over the lack of interest from other automakers in licensing Tesla’s Full Self Driving (FSD) technology. In a tweet, he mentioned that despite previous optimism about potential deals, discussions have been few and far between. He described these conversations as tepid and unrealistic, with no real progress being made.Musk's earlier statements suggested significant interest from other manufacturers in licensing FSD, but those promises seem to have faded over time. During an investor call last year, he claimed that one automaker was already discussing a potential deal, while in January this year, he reiterated there was substantial interest. However, the reality has been different. The current situation highlights Musk's belief that FS...
