Mahindra has just taken a significant leap forward in the electric vehicle (EV) space with the inauguration of its Charge_IN network, featuring two powerful 180kW fast chargers. Located on key highways like NH75 and NH44, these stations are designed to cater not only to Mahindra’s own fleet but also to a wide range of EV brands, making them an essential stop for any electric car owner.

With the ability to charge up to four vehicles simultaneously at each station, Charge_IN is set to alleviate some of the anxiety around long-distance travel with an EV. The network aims to expand rapidly over the next few years, adding 250 stations and 1,000 chargers by 2027. This ambitious goal is a testament to Mahindra’s commitment to making electric vehicles more accessible and practical for everyday use.

The Charge_IN network boasts impressive charging speeds; models like the BE 6 and XEV 9e can go from 20% to 80% charge in just 20 minutes. This quick turnaround time is a for those who are used to refueling gas-powered vehicles, offering an efficient way to keep your EV charged during long journeys.

For drivers planning longer trips, Mahindra recommends using the Me4_U app or aggregator services to locate nearby charging stations and ensure there’s always power available when you need it. It’s also wise to plan ahead by checking for chargers along your route and having a backup plan in case of unexpected delays.

When embarking on long-distance travel with an EV, maintaining optimal driving conditions is crucial. Mahindra advises starting with a full charge, cruising at steady speeds between 80-100 km/h, and minimizing the use of high-energy features like HVAC to maximize range. Every percentage of battery life counts when you’re miles from home.

The BE 6 and XEV 9e are two models that can truly benefit from this new network. The BE 6 starts at Rs. 18.90 lakh, while the XEV 9e is priced at Rs. 21.90 lakh. Both vehicles offer impressive range and performance, making them ideal for those who want to explore India’s vast landscapes without worrying about running out of charge.

The vehicle also boasts a five-screen layout for front and second-row passengers and includes Harman Kardon sound system.

The XEV 9S will compete in the Rs. 21-30 lakh price range against models such as the Tata Harrier EV and BYD eMax 7. This positioning places it squarely within reach of a broad segment of electric vehicle enthusiasts and families seeking spacious, high-tech SUVs.

Mahindra’s entry into the three-row BEV market is seen as a significant move to establish its presence in the growing electric vehicle sector.
With the XEV 9S, Mahindra seeks to address the demand for larger electric vehicles that offer both utility and luxury features. This model is expected to set a new benchmark in India’s EV market, offering a compelling alternative to existing offerings from other manufacturers such as Tata Motors and BYD.

Mahindra has unveiled the teaser for its upcoming electric SUV, the XEV 9S, which is set to launch soon. The vehicle is built on the INGLO skateboard platform and features a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) setup with a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMS). It boasts an impressive power output of 282 horsepower and torque of 380 Nm, making it competitive in the electric SUV segment.

The XEV 9S is expected to be priced between Rs. 21-30 lakh, placing it directly against rivals such as the Tata Harrier EV and BYD eMax 7. The vehicle’s three-row seating configuration sets it apart from its two existing Born Electric counterparts, which offer a five-seat layout. This additional space could appeal to families or those needing more passenger capacity.

Externally, the XEV 9S sports distinctive features like a full-width LED light bar and a front camera, both borrowed from the current XEV 9e model. The interior includes premium touches such as Harman Kardon audio systems, blacked-out cabin finishes, and LED lighting throughout. Additionally, it offers convenience features including a powered tailgate and panoramic sunroof.

Powering the XEV 9S is either a 59kWh or 79kWh BYD Blade LFP battery pack, providing ample range for daily commuting needs. The choice of battery size could cater to different customer preferences based on driving habits and range requirements. With these options, Mahindra aims to capture a significant share in the growing electric SUV market.

Competitively priced within its segment, the XEV 9S faces stiff competition from established players like Tata Motors’ Harrier EV and BYD’s eMax 7. While Tata’s Harrier EV offers similar functionalities with a slightly different design approach, BYD’s eMax 7 presents a strong challenge with its advanced technology and features.

The launch of the XEV 9S marks Mahindra’s strategic move to strengthen its presence in the electric SUV market. With its robust performance figures, spacious interior layout, and comprehensive feature set, it aims to attract customers looking for an electric vehicle that combines practicality with luxury. As the Indian EV market continues to grow, vehicles like the XEV 9S are expected to play a crucial role in shaping future trends.

Mahindra is making a significant move to bolster its electric vehicle (EV) offerings in India by launching the ‘Charge_IN’ fast-charging network. With plans to install 250 chargers and over 1,000 charging points across the country by 2027, Mahindra aims to make long-distance travel with EVs more practical for its customers.

The company’s initiative includes setting up Charge_IN stations along major highway corridors, ensuring easy access to charging infrastructure. These locations are conveniently placed near cafes and restaurants, making it easier for drivers to recharge while enjoying a meal or taking a break during their journey.

Mahindra is using 180 kW dual-gun chargers at each site, allowing customers to charge their EVs from 20% to 80% State of Charge (SoC) in just 20 minutes. This quick charging capability is particularly beneficial for long road trips and aligns with the growing demand for reliable EV infrastructure.

The first two sites under the Charge_IN network have already been opened, one in Hoskote near Bengaluru and another in Murthal, close to Delhi. Both locations feature two 180 kW dual-gun chargers, enabling up to four cars to charge simultaneously. This strategic placement ensures that drivers can find charging stations at key points along their routes.

Mahindra currently offers three passenger EVs: the XUV400, BE 6, and XEV 9e. While the XUV400 is a modified version of the SsangYong Tivoli, the newer BE 6 and XEV 9e models are designed specifically to take advantage of the fast-charging capabilities offered by Charge_IN stations.

The CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd’s Automotive Division, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, emphasized that their goal is to make EV travel as effortless and reliable as conventional driving. By establishing Charge_IN as an open network, Mahindra encourages other EV brands to utilize these charging stations, fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for electric mobility in India.
